Source: fly-corporate.com
Embraer presented the new Legacy 650 jet at the 62nd Annual Meeting and Convention of the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA). The large executive jet category Legacy 650 is based on the platform of the super midsize Legacy 600 and will provide longer range for up to 14 passengers.
Currently, two Legacy 650s are performing flight tests, with certification and first deliveries scheduled for the second half of 2010. The first flew on 23 September with the second taking to the air the next day.
The Legacy 650 development costs are already included in the Company's research and development plan for 2009 and 2010 and, therefore, do not affect the guidelines previously provided by Embraer. The Legacy 650 will fly up to 3,900 nautical miles (7,223 km) nonstop with four passengers, or 3,800 nautical miles (7,038 km) with eight passengers, meaning approximately 500 nautical miles (926 km) farther than the Legacy 600. Rolls-Royce's AE 3007A2 is the exclusive powerplant for the Legacy 650.
The price is $29.5 M (at 2009 conditions). "We had already started to develop this aircraft when the crisis hit. We saw this as an opportunity to fill a gap in our product line and to be ready with it when the recovery comes." Luis Carlos Affonso, Embraer Executive Vice President, Executive Jets.
