Aviation News Item: 00830 23rd Apr 2009 BA to dismantle crashed 777-200 for parts Source: ubmaviationnews.com BA British Airways (BA) is to dismantle the 777-200ER aircraft, which last year crashed on approached at Heathrow. Despite is continuing investigation the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has now given permission for the aircraft to be dismantled having previously ensured it stay intact. Some of the dismantled parts will then be sold for scrap. It is believed the aircraft's fuel lines iced up and flushed against the heat exchangers of the Roll-Royce Trent 800 engines. |
