Aviation News Item: 00794 6th May 2009 PPG to provide cockpit windows for Legacy 450 and 500 Source: ubmaviationnews.com Embraer has awarded Pittsburg-based PPG a contract to design and produce cockpit windows for its future Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 executive aircraft. Art Scott, PPG Aerospace's global director for commercial original-equipment transparencies sales, estimated the deal to be worth about $38m, given current production estimates of 1,200 aircraft over 10 years. The heated glass windshields will have rain-repellent Surface Seal coating to provide water shedding without the need for windshield wipers. The side cockpit windows are expected to be laminated stretched acrylic. While the windshields are to be produced at the firm's Huntsville facility in Alabama, the side cockpit windows are to be manufactured at facilities in Sylmar, California, and Casaletto Vaprio, Italy, near Milan. |
