Aviation News Item: 00739 20th May 2009 Forward fuselage for first 747-8 freighter assembled Source: ubmaviationnews.com Boeing has completed assembly of the first forward fuselage for its 747-8 freighter. The 89ft, 2in. (27.2m) fuselage section was moved from the final assembly installation tool for sealing and testing before beginning systems installation. The 747-8 will be 18ft, 4in. (5.6m) longer than the -400 series. Much of the stretch - 13ft, 4in. (4.1m) - is located in the forward fuselage. The remaining additional 5ft (1.5 m) are located aft of the wing. The company says the stretched fuselage offers 16 per cent more cargo volume than the 747-400 freighter, providing space for four additional main-deck pallets and three additional pallets in the lower hold. |
