Aviation News Item: 00701 3rd Jun 2009 Air Technical Industries launches all-in-one maintenance vehicle Source: ubmaviationnews.com Ohio-based Air Technical Industries has announced the launch of the "Scorpion Aircraft Tug", which includes a built-in crane lift and auxiliary power unit (APU). The equipment is designed to move aircraft weighing up to 15,000lb. The firm says the battery-operated tug should save FBOs using traditionally separate pieces of equipment: an APU to start the aircraft, a tug tractor to move it, a crane to remove the engine for service and to load and unload cargo (max lift arm capacity 1,000lb), and a tow vehicle with a winch to retrieve stranded aircraft. An overnight battery charge should be sufficient for typical daily operations, according to the firm. |
