Aviation News Item: 00690 5th Jun 2009 Harris Corporation to acquire SolaCom's ATC business Source: ubmaviationnews.com Florida-based communications and IT company Harris Corporation has signed an agreement to acquire the air traffic control (ATC) business unit of Quebec-based SolaCom Technologies by the end of this month. Through the acquisition, Harris plans to achieve a greater share in the FAA's upgrade to the next generation air transportation system (NextGen). SolaCom's ATC business has approximately 50 employees who provide voice and data communication systems and solutions for air traffic facilities and radio communications between aircraft in flight and air traffic controllers. Harris is already a contractor for the $3.5bn, 15-year FAA telecommunications infrastructure (FTI) programme. |
