Aviation News Item: 00688 5th Jun 2009 ASAP reinstated at American Source: ubmaviationnews.com Following the March agreement between American Airlines (AA) and the Allied Pilots Association (APA), the union representing all AA pilots, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has reinstated the "Aviation Safety Action Program" (ASAP) on May 29 at the airline. The programme, which had lapsed last autumn after 14 years, is to encourage employees to voluntarily report safety-related information and help identify potentially serious safety incidents. Along with Delta Airlines, American quit ASAP in early December 2008 after APA had argued that the airline were using the programme to discipline pilots for admitting mistakes and that the company were not offering sufficient job security for ASAP participants. American has also announced, in conjunction with the Transport Workers Union of America (TWU), a two-year extension of ASAP for its maintenance staff. |
