Aviation News Item: 00682 8th Jun 2009 China inaugurates new aircraft assembly centre in Shanghai Source: ubmaviationnews.com The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) has inaugurated the first stage of a new final assembling centre at the Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Company at the city's Pudong International Airport. Both the ARJ21 and the C919 project, which is aimed at replacing 737 and A320 aircraft, are to be built in the new facility. The plan is to assemble 30 ARJ-700s in 2010 and increase annual production to 50 aircraft by 2012. For the development of the C919 alone, Chinese media have named a total investment of CNY200bn, CNY60bn of which has reportedly been allocated for the next three years. The 150-seat aircraft is scheduled to takeoff for its first flight in 2014 and enter scheduled services in 2016. |
