Aviation News Item: 00656 16th Jun 2009 First LEAP core begins testing Source: ubmaviationnews.com CFM International has announced the first start-up of its LEAP-X engine core in an altitude test chamber at GE Aviation's facility in Evendale, Ohio, last Saturday, June 13. It was the beginning of a 100-hour ground test programme. At the company's outdoor test facility in Peebles, Ohio, cross-wind and acoustics tests are continuing on the RTM (resin transfer molding) composite fan of the proposed CFM56 successor engine. The first full demonstrator engine is scheduled to run in 2012, and LEAP-X could be certified by 2016 according to CFM. |
