Aviation News Item: 00625 22nd Jun 2009 Emirates selects Honeywell's "SmartLanding" to avoid runway incursions Source: ubmaviationnews.com Emirates has signed a MoU with Honeywell to purchase its "SmartLanding" system to alert flight crew of runway incursions. The system is a software upgrade to the avionic manufacturer's enhanced ground proximity warning system (EGPWS). Using GPS data, the auditory and visual alerts are based on aircraft position, speed and flight path in relation to airport runway locations. The system is to be incorporated into the Emirates' 777-200/300, A330 and A340 fleet later this year. |
