Aviation News Item: 00612 25th Jun 2009 FAA calls for safety actions Source: ubmaviationnews.com "We know that the airline industry is committed to operate at the highest level of safety," said Randy Babbitt, administrator of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). "Now is the time to push these initiatives forward." To improve safety and reduce risk particularly at regional airlines, the FAA said it is making pilot fatigue a high priority and will work rapidly to develop and implement a new flight time and rest rule. FAA inspectors are also to review airline procedures to identify and track pilots who fail evaluations or demonstrate a repetitive need for additional training. Among further new safety rules and initiatives, the FAA expects all carriers who do not currently have flight operations quality assurance (FOQA) and aviation safety action programmes in place to implement them. |
