Aviation News Item: 00589 2nd Jul 2009 EU-US agreement risks stripping pilots of basic labour rights, argues ECA Source: ubmaviationnews.com The European Cockpit Association (ECA), supported by its US counterpart ALPA International (ALPA-I) and the International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Association (IFALPA), has called upon EU institutions to set up a legal framework that would allow pilots to have proper representation; give them the right to negotiate and to agree collective labour agreements; and to ensure that these agreements are properly enforceable, on both sides of the Atlantic. While the association's Captain Martin Chalk said that "neither ECA nor ALPA-I are opposed to liberalisation," it argues that that the current 1st stage EU-US agreement has shown serious unresolved labour relations issues. |
