Aviation News Item: 00583 3rd Jul 2009 Computer glitch troubled United's Chicago hub Source: ubmaviationnews.com A computer glitch forced United Airlines yesterday morning (July 2) to delay and cancel flights at its main hub at Chicago O'Hare International airport. Around 5.00am CDT (10.00am UTC) the airline's computer system at the airport partly went down; bringing United flights to and from Chicago to a temporary halt. Passengers could not use self check-in facilities in the terminal, and flight crew could not determine passenger numbers and the weight of their aircraft. Traffic started flowing again later in the morning, when the computer network was gradually restored, but delays, also at other airports, continued throughout the day. The disruptions occurred at a particularly busy time of the year just before the nations Independence Day celebrations on July 4. |
