Aviation News Item: 00574 7th Jul 2009 Union disagreement at Air Canada Source: ubmaviationnews.com Air Canada has been unable to finalise a tentative labour agreement it reached with its unions on June 8, after the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) voted narrowly against it last week, according to Canadian media. The airline and union have re-entered discussions about the agreement, which proposed a pension funding moratorium and a 21-month remuneration freeze. While administrative and financial employees voted for the agreement, the IAMAW, which represents 12,300 Air Canada mechanics, baggage handlers and technical staff, is concerned about possible outsourcing of maintenance work to El Salvador-based Aeroman, a new group member of the airline's MRO affiliate Aveos. The company, formerly known as Air Canada Technical Services, was re-organised in 2007. |
