Aviation News Item: 00542 16th Jul 2009 DeTect selects SharpEye for birdstrike radar technology Source: ubmaviationnews.com DeTect, the provider and developer of birdstrike avoidance radar systems, has selected Kelvin Hughes for the use of SharpEye solid-state radar. The new MERLIN Aircraft Birdstrike Avoidance Radar systems will include the solid-state radar technology provided by Kelvin Hughes. "This is a significant advance for our product, improving bird detection and tracking especially in poor weather such as rain and fog," says Gary Andrews, CEO, DeTect. Traditionally used magnetron-based, X-band systems do not function well under heavy fog and light rain - a high risk situation as visibility is poor for both pilots and birds. |
