Dubai 09: Care By Air to deliver humanitarian cargo 'at cost'

Source: flightglobal.com

Maximus Air Cargo, Etihad Airways, Abu Dhabi Airports Company, the UAE Red Crescent and the United Nations World Food Programme have teamed to launch Care By Air, a humanitarian venture designed to take advantage of available cargo capacity.

Care By Air will provide available cargo space aboard aircraft operated by Etihad Airways and Maximus Air Cargo at cost to the UN World Food Programme and UAE Red Crescent.

"Acting independent each is a force for good, acting together the potential to make a difference is much greater," says James Hogan, chief executive of Etihad Airways.

According to the International Air Transport Association, only 70% of the maximum cargo loading capacity is used across the world. Care By Air aims to exploit the remaining 30% of available cargo capacity to deliver food where it is most needed.
