Aviation News Item: 00530 21st Jul 2009 EASA issues emergency AD for ATR cockpit windows Source: ubmaviationnews.com The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has issued an emergency airworthiness directive (AD) to inspect and, if necessary, replace cockpit forward-side windows on certain ATR42/72 aircraft. The AD concerns aircraft that are equipped with PPG Aerospace glass windows part number (p/n) NP158862-1 and/or p/n NP158862-2. The inspections must be completed within 10 days after accumulation of 2,000 total flight cycles (FC) on a given cockpit forward-side window, or within 10 days after the effective date of this AD (20/07/09) for windows that have accumulated 2,000 total FC or more. The reason for the AD is that a left-hand forward-side glass window of an ATR 72-212 blew out as it performed a ground pressure test. |
