Aviation News Item: 00529 22nd Jul 2009 First 747-8F fuselage assembled Source: ubmaviationnews.com Boeing mechanics at the airframer's factory in Everett, Washington, loaded the forward and aft fuselage sections of the first 747-8 freighter to join with the wing and centre section. "This final body join provides us the first real look at the size of the 747-8 freighter," said Mo Yahyavi, VP and GM of the 747 programme. The aircraft is 250ft, 2in. (76.3m) long, which is 18ft and 4in. (5.6m) longer than the 747-400 freighter. The stretch provides customers with 16 per cent more cargo volume compared to its predecessor. That translates to four additional main-deck pallets and three additional lower-hold pallets. |
