Aviation News Item: 00509 27th Jul 2009 FAA proposes modification for Trent 800 Source: ubmaviationnews.com The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed a mandatory modification for certain Trent 800 engines by January 2011 to prevent ice accumulation in the fuel system. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA issued an airworthiness directive (AD) effective on July 13 to replace the engine's fuel-to-oil heat exchanger (FOHE). Ice accumulation in the FOHE has been determined as the cause for a thrust rollback incident on a Delta Air Lines 777 in November 2008 and the crash landing of a British Airways 777 at London Heathrow airport in January 2008. |
