Aviation News Item: 00508 28th Jul 2009 New Rolls-Royce plants in UK and Singapore Source: ubmaviationnews.com Rolls-Royce said it will invest approximately £300m ($496m) in the construction or extension of four facilities in the UK - three for aerospace and one for civil nuclear products - and another £300m ($496m) for a new production plant in Singapore. In Britain, the company plans to build a new turbine blade manufacturing facility, a new factory for compressor and turbine disks and extend its wide-chord fan blade production plant in Barnoldswick, Lancashire. The fourth UK project is a new facility to manufacture and test equipment for civil nuclear power plants. Approximately 800 jobs are to be secured or created in Britain through the investment, which is supported with a £45m ($74.3m) contribution from the UK government's 'Strategic Investment Fund'. In Singapore, Rolls-Royce wants to build a new wide-chord fan blade production plant and a facility to test and assemble Trent engines, creating about 500 new jobs. ($1 = £0.60) |
