Aviation News Item: 00489 3rd Aug 2009 American under FAA scrutiny Source: ubmaviationnews.com The FAA is investigating whether American Airlines failed to report fuselage skin scratches to the administration in good time, which the carrier found on some of its 737 aircraft, according to US media reports. After firstly noticing scratches in the door area of one 737 in February 2009, which are believed to have been caused by airport passenger bridges (jetways), the Fort Worth-based airline started to inspect its 737 fleet of approximately 85 aircraft last week. Three jets were thereby temporarily taken out of service to be repaired. Although the fleet-wide inspection was reportedly initiated by the FAA, it is not clear when the company noticed that more than one aircraft showed the damage. American has been cited that it notified the administration as soon as a damage pattern across different aircraft had been established. |
