UAL to move operations centre to headquarters

Source: ubmaviationnews.com

United Airlines (UAL) is to move its operations centre near Chicago O'Hare airport to the former 'Sears Tower', now named 'Willis Tower', in central Chicago. The company's headquarters was moved from the airport to the city centre two years ago. The change is to affect about 2,800 jobs and should begin next year. The company said it is occupying only about a third of the 50-year-old current facility near the airport, which could cost up to $90m to modernise. The refurbishment of the new location is to cost about $35m, but the company is to receive a $25m incentive from the city administration, according to US media. This package reportedly includes grants, tax incentives and job-training programmes.
