Aviation News Item: 00462 10th Aug 2009 Premium AEROTEC breaks ground for Augsburg A350XWB facility Source: ubmaviationnews.com EADS subsidiary Premium AEROTEC has begun the construction of the new 25,000m2 hangar in Augsburg, Germany, which will be the manufacturing plant for A350 XWB fibre composite components. The shell of the building is due to be completed by the beginning of November and production is planned to commence in the first quarter of 2010. The plant is being built especially for the production of the large side shells of the rear fuselage section (section 16/18) of the composite airframe. The first fibre placement system is to be installed in September. The autoclave is currently being custom-built in South Korea and will be shipped to Augsburg by sea- and land-transport. It is expected to arrive in early November. The company said the hangar for the A350 XWB front fuselage (section 13/14) at its plant in Nordenham is "in an advanced" stage and that the autoclave is expected to arrive in the next few weeks. |
