Aviation News Item: 00457 11th Aug 2009 GE and FAA sign research agreement for unmanned aircraft Source: ubmaviationnews.com General Electric (GE) and the FAA have signed a cooperative research and development agreement (CRDA) to provide operational and technical assessments for the integration of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) into the national airspace systems (NAS). This includes the assessment of next-generation (NextGen) trajectory-based operations (TBO). Simulation will be conducted at the FAA's William J. Hughes Technical Center beginning this autumn and will continue for two years. The research is to be complemented by industry cooperative agreements, including an agreement between AAI Corporation and the OEM. GE plans to work with our industry partners to commercialise a trajectory-based control system for UAS producers and operators. Technology derived from this collaborative research is to be folded back into the company's commercial flight management system. |
