Aviation News Item: 00454 12th Aug 2009 JFK and LAX operate with ASDE-X Source: ubmaviationnews.com New York's John F. Kennedy International airport (JFK) and Los Angeles International airport (LAX) have installed Sensis' airport surface detection equipment, Model X (ASDE-X), a runway incursion detection and alerting system. ASDE-X combines surface movement radar, multilateration and automatic dependent surveillance - broadcast (ADS-B) to provide air traffic controllers with accurate, real-time position and identification information of aircraft and vehicles on the airport surface in all weather conditions. The system also features runway conflict detection and alerting technology, Safety Logic, to alert controllers of potential aircraft or vehicle incursions. New York-based Sensis said that 17 of the 35 airports to receive the technology through the FAA's ASDE-X programme are now operational. |
