Aviation News Item: 00434 17th Aug 2009 FAA to review flight rules in NYC area Source: ubmaviationnews.com After the fatal collision of a sightseeing helicopter and light fixed-wing aircraft over New York's Hudson River on Saturday, August 9, where all nine people onboard the two aircraft died, the FAA has convened a New York airspace working group that will review current operating procedures over the Hudson and East Rivers and recommend safety improvements to Randy Babbitt, FAA Administrator, on August 28. Meantime an air traffic control officer at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, who reportedly made a personal phone call at the time of the accident, has been suspended. His supervisor was placed on leave, because he was not in the control room at the time. However, it has not been established that the two men's actions contributed to the accident. |
