Aviation News Item: 00397 27th Aug 2009 Southwest can continue to fly 737 with unapproved parts for the time being Source: ubmaviationnews.com The FAA has given Southwest Airlines permission to continue flying some of its 737 with unapproved parts in the engine/wing installation for the time being, it said yesterday, August 26. UBM Aviation News reported yesterday that the carrier had to temporarily ground 46 737s last Saturday, August 22, after unapproved hinges had been found in the engine exhaust-protection-panels on the aircraft's wings during a routine FAA inspection. While the administration said the parts do not pose a safety threat, it has ordered the airline to develop a long-term solution within 10 days together with Boeing and the FAA. The FAA is also continuing its formal investigation into the issue. |
