Aviation News Item: 00358 7th Sep 2009 Air India 747 suffers engine fire on ground Source: ubmaviationnews.com An Air India 747-400 suffered an engine fire shortly before takeoff at Mumbai's international airport on Friday, September 4. All 229 passengers and crew on board safely evacuated the aircraft via the emergency slides. Some people suffered minor injuries, which were treated at the airport, and the fire could be quickly extinguished, according to media reports. The fire broke out in one of the two port engines as the aircraft taxied to the runway. The flight was bound for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. India's directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) has begun an investigation into the incident. |
