Aviation News Item: 00334 11th Sep 2009 Workers at former Vought plant vote against union Source: ubmaviationnews.com Workers at Boeing's newly acquired plant in Charleston, South Carolina, have voted against union representation by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. While 68 machinists voted in favour of union representation, 200 members of staff voted against it in an election held by the National Labor Relations Board, according to US media reports. Boeing took over the plant from Vought Aircraft Industries in July 2009 and is considering the site as a possible location for a second 787 final assembly line. UBM Aviation News reported on August 26, 2009, that the OEM filed permit applications for the construction of a Dreamliner assembly facility in North Charleston. In the past machinists at the former Vought plant were represented by the union. |
