Aviation News Item: 00320 16th Sep 2009 Aviation players sign up to modernise European sky Source: ubmaviationnews.com The SESAR Joint Undertaking, a public-private partnership concerned with air traffic management research and development, has signed a series of contracts with industry players to engage their technical experts in the Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) programme. The companies to have signed contracts are Air France & Régional, KLM, Iberia, Lufthansa Group (including SWISS and LCAG), SAS Scandinavian Airlines, TAP Portugal, Novair (a consortium co-ordinated by the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA) including Netjets Europe and Dassault Aviation), as well as the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and the International Aircraft Owner and Pilot Association (IAOPA). The SESAR Joint Undertaking hopes this additional technical expertise will enable it to tackle its mission to develop a user-driven, modernised and affordable Air Traffic Management system for Europe, which will prevent crippling congestion of the European sky and reduce the environmental impact of air transport. Giovanni Bisignani, IATA director general and CEO, stated: "Today's agreement is important because it accelerates validation of future technologies with flight trials in real conditions." |
