Aviation News Item: 00313 18th Sep 2009 RUAG may close Zurich site Source: ubmaviationnews.com Technology group RUAG says it is revising its civil aircraft maintenance business strategy. It is optimising its business model, which could include a site closure, affecting 30 staff. It puts the reorganisation down to cost pressure and lower profit margins. The company says the main focus of the optimisation is to tap synergies to a greater extent by establishing centres of excellence for specific types of aircraft. RUAG's Zurich-Kloten site cannot currently be operated profitably due to a "highly unfavourable cost structure". As a result, RUAG says closure of the site "cannot be ruled out in the near future" and a public consultation process has already begun. |
