Aviation News Item: 02909 9th Dec 2009 IATA calls for global sectoral approach for aviation in Copenhagen Source: ubmaviationnews.com Giovanni Bisignani, IATA's director general and CEO, has called on governments at the climate change summit in Copenhagen to give the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the UN's agency for aviation, a clear mandate for a global sectoral approach to aviation emissions and not to regulate the industry by varying national or regional agreements. IATA said the industry would commit to improve fuel efficiency by an average of 1.5 per cent per year to 2020; stabilise carbon emissions from 2020 with carbon-neutral growth; and a net reduction in carbon emissions of 50 per cent by 2050 compared to 2005. |
