Aviation News Item: 00264 1st Oct 2009 P&WC confirms workforce reductions and plant closure Source: ubmaviationnews.com Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) will reduce its global workforce by approximately 250 employees by the end of 2009. The company will also close one of the facilities (Auvergne Street) at its headquarter location in Longueuil, Quebec, by the end of 2010. The plant's activities will be transferred to other company facilities on Montreal's South Shore. This closure will result in an additional workforce reduction of 160 employees across the OEM's Quebec operations, starting in early 2010. The company cited "a projected decline in customer demand and weakness in the global aerospace market with no signs of a recovery in 2010" as the reasons for the redundancies and plant closure. PW&C is currently expanding its facility in Mirabel, Quebec. |
