Aviation News Item: 00261 2nd Oct 2009 ATR officially presents first '-600' series aircraft Source: ubmaviationnews.com ATR officially presented the first '-600' series aircraft - the ATR 72-600 prototype, which started its flight test programme in July 2009 - in Toulouse yesterday, October 1. The turboprop is fitted with Pratt & Whitney 127M engines, which provide five per cent additional thermodynamic power at takeoff to improve performance on short runways, in hot weather and at high altitude. The maximum takeoff weight of the ATR 72-600 will be 23,000kg (50,700lb). The aircraft will be equipped with a new avionics suite and cabin interior. Launched in October 2007, the aircraft family (ATR 42-600 and ATR 72-600) is scheduled to enter service in 2011. |
