Aviation News Item: 00259 2nd Oct 2009 Swissport to cease passenger handling operations in Vienna Source: ubmaviationnews.com Swissport will be terminating its passenger handling activities at Vienna Airport at the end of 2009. The Zurich-based ground handler said it "has been compelled to take this action following the collapse of SkyEurope in August and the insufficient prospects of positive local business development in the longer term." The closure will make around 70 employees redundant and is "currently" scheduled for November 30. The company started providing ground-handling-services in the Austrian capital in 2001. Its cargo-handling operations in Vienna are not affected by the decision. |
