Aviation News Item: 00213 16th Oct 2009 LHT opens maintenance centre in Milan Source: ubmaviationnews.com Lufthansa Technik (LHT) has opened an aircraft maintenance and component services centre at Milan's Malpensa airport yesterday (October 15). The new facility is to perform maintenance services up to A checks, AOG support and troubleshooting for 737, A320-family and A330/A340 aircraft, but the services may be extended to other models depending on market demand. The company has hired a 6,400m2 hangar for up to four narrowbody or one widebody plus two narrowbody aircraft. Initial customers will be the German flag carrier's own cargo subsidiary and its regional airline, Lufthansa Italia, which is based at Malpensa. The new facility is an extension of the company's existing component services business in Milan, which started operations in April 2008. Now officially named Lufthansa Technik Milan (LTMIL), the plan is to increase the number of employees from 30 to 160. |
