Aviation News Item: 00205 20th Oct 2009 Rolls-Royce begins construction of new US manufacturing facility Source: ubmaviationnews.com Rolls-Royce has begun construction of a new aerospace manufacturing facility at Crosspointe, Virginia. The first building on the site will be a 140,000ft2 disc manufacturing facility, which should be operational in early 2011 and produce components for various engine programmes, including the Trent 900, 1000 and XWB families. Later the company plans to produce blisks in a second building on site. The initial investment in the OEM's first US green-field manufacturing facility will be $170m, but over time the company anticipates a total investment of approximately $500m in Virginia. |
