Aviation News Item: 00197 22nd Oct 2009 Second 787 assembly line either in Everett or Charleston Source: ubmaviationnews.com Boeing has narrowed the choice for the location of its planned, second 787 assembly line to Everett, Washington, and Charleston in North Carolina. A decision will be made in the next couple of weeks, Jim McNerney, Boeing CEO, said yesterday (October 21) when he presented the company's third quarter earnings. Aside from the airframer's main location near Seattle and the former Vought facility in Charleston, which was acquired in July 2009, Boeing also considered locations in California, Kansas and Texas. The second assembly line will be necessary to increase production of the Dreamliner and make up for the programme delay of nearly two and a half years. |
