Aviation News Item: 00178 29th Oct 2009 American: Kansas City base will be closed and other facilities cut back Source: ubmaviationnews.com American Airlines has confirmed it will close its overhaul base in Kansas City, Missouri, in September 2010. Aside from the former TWA base, which American took over in 2001, the carrier will also close its light maintenance stations in Detroit, Minneapolis/St Paul and San Jose, Carlifornia, and reduce its MRO operations in San Francisco and St Louis. The company says the facility closures and cutbacks come as a result of the reduction in its fleet size; the airline currently operates approximately 600 aircraft. |
