Aviation News Item: 00172 30th Oct 2009 Airbus may cut production further in 2010 Source: ubmaviationnews.com Airbus may have to cut aircraft production further in 2010, Thomas Enders, president and CEO, told journalists in Hamburg yesterday (October 29). He said that due to the strained financial situation of many airlines the airframer may have to go beyond the production cutbacks made thus far. A320-family production has already been reduced from 36 to 34 aircraft per month and widebody production has been reduced from 11 to eight per month. The number of A380s that were originally to be delivered in 2009 was roughly halved from 25 to 13, although Enders indicated that one or two deliveries may slip into early 2010. He reiterated that there were still manufacturing issues. He also said that the Power8 restructuring and cost-cutting programme, which was introduced in 2007, was expected to meet its target of saving €2.1bn ($3.1bn) by 2010. |
