NORDAM's has delivered to Gulfstream the first two shipsets of G650 composite wing-to-body fairings and main landing gear doors. The programme consists of six hinged main landing gear doors, as well as 20 wing-to-body panels. The production is largely automated and involves, for examples, the use of laser equipment to determine ply location of the composite material and five-axis CNC precision machining equipment. "The digital product definition concept proved to be extremely successful and our product was installed without any additional trim required on any of the panels. All of the step/gap tolerances were met," said Terry Gray, VP and GM of the company's interiors and structures division.
