'Aloha' fuel consumption thanks to winglets

Source: ubmaviationnews.com

Hawaiian Airlines has completed the installation of blended winglets on its first 767-300. The company expects to have winglets installed on eight of its 767s by summer 2010. The carrier said the 11ft (3.3m) tall winglets will save between 700 and 800 gallons (2,650-3,030 litres) of fuel for every round trip between the West Coast and Hawaii, or an estimated two million gallons (7.6m litres) of fuel per year. This should translate into reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 2,250 tons per aircraft per year, or an estimated 18,000 tons annually once all eight aircraft are fitted.
