Aviation News Item: 00148 9th Nov 2009 Qantas engineers vote for strike Source: ubmaviationnews.com Ninety-eight per cent of Qantas engineers, who are unionised in the Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers, have voted for strike action after negotiations with the management over pay and working conditions, in particular work time issues, have failed. The engineers reportedly demanded a 30 per cent pay rise over the next three years. The last agreement between the union and airline expired in June. From November 13, the engineers will not respond to call-outs or perform out-of-hour work. Qantas said it had contingency plans in place and there would not be any disruptions. This will be the first engineers strike in the airline's history. |
