Aviation News Item: 00145 10th Nov 2009 NetJets Europe aims to be 100 per cent carbon neutral by 2012 Source: ubmaviationnews.com NetJets Europe has reiterated its aim to be "the most environmentally responsible company in private aviation" and become 100 per cent carbon neutral by 2012. The business aviation company launched an environmental management strategy in 2007 called 'Real Difference' when the goal was set; yesterday (November 9) the firm published its progress report. One of the main elements was the introduction of a mandatory carbon offset programme for flights, which was incorporated into every five-year fractional ownership contract on renewal since 2007. As of July 1, 2009, approximately 69 per cent of owners were participating in the programme, and the emissions of more than 55 per cent of flights were being offset. All flight emissions will eventually be offset by 2012, NetJets has said. Over the past two years the company has sponsored the initial phase of the next generation jet fuel programme at Princeton University in New Jersey, US. It established an internal working group, including pilots, to study fuel efficiency and ways to improve operations, which has a resulted in a six per cent reduction of flight emissions. Office emissions could be reduced by 36 per cent per employee. |
