Aviation News Item: 00143 11th Nov 2009 Hawker Beechcraft to shut down Salina facility Source: ubmaviationnews.com Hawker Beechcraft has decided to close its facility in Salina, Kansas and is considering whether to move the production to its headquarters in Wichita. The general aviation aircraft OEM employs approximately 240 members of staff at Salina who manufacture airframe structures and assemblies; the workforce has already been reduced from approximately 500 over the past 12 months. The company has asked the International Association of Machinists to make proposals about how jobs could be saved in Kansas if the work was to be moved to Wichita. Alternatively, it is looking at other US and overseas locations. No timeline for the move has been disclosed. The lease for the 484,000ft2 (50,000m2) facility expires in February 2012. |
