Aviation News Item: 00140 11th Nov 2009 Vietnam examines Jetstar Pacific's maintenance process after whistleblowing Source: ubmaviationnews.com The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) is investigating whether Jetstar Pacific Airlines (JPA), an affiliate of the Australian-Asian Jetstar low-cost carrier network, has breached maintenance procedures and regulations, according to media reports. Two former company engineers alerted the CAAV that, for example, the airline allowed an aircraft to fly that had a damaged engine intake and should have been taken out of service to be repaired. Some maintenance work was also not properly documented and checks of replacement parts had been omitted, according to the two Australian nationals. They reportedly said that, while maintenance staff were worried about safety standards at the airline, many were worried about being dismissed if they raised these issues. The two whistleblowers had already been sacked before alerting the authorities. |
