flydubai and BA select carbon brakes for Boeing aircraft

Source: ubmaviationnews.com

flydubai has selected Goodrich to supply wheels and carbon brakes for 54 737-800 aircraft, which are scheduled for delivery beginning in March 2010 until 2013. The contract is expected to generate up to $22m in revenue over the life of the contract, including aftermarket support. The wheels and carbon brakes will use the supplier's proprietary 'DURACARB' carbon material, which will provide a weight savings of approximately 700 pounds (318 kg) per aircraft compared to high capacity steel brakes, and 550 pounds (250 kg) compared to standard capacity steel brakes.

British Airways (BA) has contracted Honeywell to provide wheels and carbon brakes for 16 767-300 and 46 777-200 aircraft in a long-term agreement valued at more than $50m; the US company will provide wheels and brakes materials through the aircraft's lifetime up to 2033. BA will maintain the equipment in its own recently built workshop near Heathrow Airport in the UK.
