Lufthansa Technik (LHT) and Oman Air, the national airline of the Sultanate of Oman, have signed a letter of intent (LoI) today (November 16) to form an MRO JV for the airline and other customers in the region. A new hangar is to be built at the International Airport of Muscat to service up to two widebody and two narrowbody aircraft from 2012. More than 300 technicians and mechanics are to offer aircraft maintenance through to light C checks for 737NG, A330 and ATR 42 aircraft.

Oman Air also intends to contract LHT for 15 C checks of 737NG aircraft due to begin in January 2010. The work would be done at the German MRO provider's operations in Malta, Budapest and Sofia.
