GE: avionics JV with AVIC, and GE90 maintenance agreement with Emirates

Source: ubmaviationnews.com

General Electric Aviation (GE) and China's AVIC Systems agreed to form a JV to develop and market avionics systems for future commercial aircraft programmes yesterday (November 16). This will include the COMAC C919, China's planned narrowbody aircraft, which is to compete with the 737 and A320 families. The new company is to be established by mid-2010 and will be headquartered in China. "The joint venture creates approximately 200 jobs in the US, in addition to creating bilateral industrial co-operation with China," said Lorraine Bolsinger, president and CEO for GE's Aviation systems business. The US firm already has a technology centre in Shanghai.

In a separate statement, GE said it signed a MoU with Emirates covering repair and testing capabilities on GE90 engines in the airline's facilities. The Middle Eastern carrier is to perform engine module and piece-part breakdown on GE90-115B engines in the region along with GE90-115B engine testing at its engine test facility, approximately 30km (19 miles) from Dubai International Airport. GE will support Emirates with material and manpower "to meet the region's growing demand."
