ARGUS June Data Shows Increase in Business Aircraft Activity

Business aircraft flight operations increased by 1.2%, according to ARGUS TRAQPak data of June 2010 versus May 2010 data.
The turboprop segment led with an increase of 5.4%, followed by the small cabin jet at 1.4%. On the other hand, the mid size cabin jet and the large cabin jet decreased by 2.2% and 1.4% respectively.
According to type of operation, the Part 91 market was the only sector that showed an increase in activity at 2.8%, whilst the Part 135 and fractional market sectors went down by 0.2% and 1.9% respectively. By looking at individual market segments, the turbo prop segment showed growth in general; with the fractional turbo prop segment led by 10.4%, the Part 91 turbo prop sector increased by 5.7%, and the Part 135 turbo prop rose by 3.7%. Part 91 small cabin jets also fared well in June showing a 4% increase over May.
Looking at the year over year calendar results (June 2010 vs June 2009) in addition, business aircraft activity was up by 4.9% overall. The mid size cabin jet market led the aircraft type segment with an increase of 10%, followed by small cabin aircraft at 5.8%. The large cabin jet and turbo prop segment also showed growth at 2.5% and 0.7% respectively.
The fractional market led a strong increase on the type of operation at 6.7%, whilst the Part 91 and Part 135 market segments also increased at 4.7% and 4.3% respectively. Reviewing the individual market segments, the Part 135 charter mid cabin aircraft and the fractional turbo props led the pack with an increase of 18.9% and 15.6% respectively.
